In true internet tradition, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite Cuphead Dank Memes — to amuse ourselves and, hopefully, some of you, our visitors: but what makes a Cuhead meme ‘dank’? I hear you ask…

The word ‘dank’ used to be a simple adjective, meaning somewhere unpleasantly moist or humid; damp and, often, chilly. A good example would be a ‘dark, dank cellar’. But then the world of stoners and pot-smokers began using it to describe very potent types of marijuana, since the definition of dank was similar to all the desired qualities to be found in good marijuana (although, perhaps, not ‘unpleasant’).

And as with many elements of the drug culture, soon the word ‘dank’ began to be used by the wider public simply to mean anything ‘cool’ — ignoring the proper definition of the word altogether.

And as it is with all things ‘cool’, especially when it comes to cool words, using the word ‘dank’ eventually became uncool, indicative more of someone who is out of touch or trying too hard to be cool. Soon after, irony kicked in.

Probably — and this is just my guesswork and not an official academic position — probably, the use of the word ‘dank’ in ‘dank memes’ was originally meant ironically because the use of the word itself ‘dank’ had become outdated, tired, and should have been relegated to a cellar somewhere. But anyway, ‘Dank Memes’ is an ironic expression that is used to describe memes,, gifs, pictures, online media and in-jokes that are themselves tired, outdated, exhausted and probably cliched — or simply bizarre to the point of amusement.

For all these reasons, it’s difficult to compile a list of Cuphead dank memes, simply because Cuphead is relatively new and not as widely distributed as many other games and, therefore, hasn’t had the attention required to make something move towards a ‘dank’ status. But that’s not going to stop us!

We’ve simply looked around online for anything labelled ‘cuphead’ and ‘dank’ and knocked together this list — at least it’s a start! So, enough with the chat — here are some of our favorite dank memes for Cuphead!
